Dublin, October 3rd - Excellence in International Markets was the title for this year's CIMA Ireland Conference 2008, a key date in the diary for senior managers with responsibility for financial management, leadership and strategic development - in particular, CEOs, CFOs, function heads and managers in businesses across every sector of the economy. For the first time CIMA Ireland 2008 conference was sponsored by Codec/DSS, Dublin.

Bringing together leading Irish business figures and world renowned academics, the conference focussed on the prerequisites for Irish companies to succeed in competitive international markets and to learn about strategic financial management for competitive positioning. The conference kicked off with a keynote speaker, Mrs Julie Sinnamon, Executive Director at Enterprise Ireland who gave an overview of EI policy and support structures in place. Indigenous companies learned from this session how to develop business in international markets, and how important and fundamental the role of a strategic management of the finance function is to survive in international markets.
One of the key speakers was Denis O`Brien, Chairman of the privately owned Communicorp Group, founded in 2001. The Communicorp Group has extended operations to 22 markets with over four million subscribers in the Caribbean, Central and South American regions. Denis spoke about leading his company into competitive international markets and what he believes are the prerequisites for success, including the importance of in-house capability in the area of strategic management of the finance function.
The world renowned Professor of Accounting and Control at INSEAD, Mr. David Young talked about world class financial management against the backdrop of uncertainty on international markets, focusing on strategic management of the finance function and how firms can increase their effectiveness in capital markets.
With the presentation of an Irish case study, all attendees gained an insight into how an Irish company has excelled on international markets, facilitated in the main by strategic management of the finance function. Sessions on leadership, business strategy and competitive positioning in international markets including the competitive challenges for 2009 completed this year's conference.
